GoAsia

This is the third project for my Google UX Design Certificate. For this personal project, I choose the prompt: Design an intuitive interface for users to plan multi-day itineraries, including destinations, dates, activities, and budget. Develop profiles for tour guides, including their experience, qualifications, reviews, and available tours.

Project overview

GoAsia is a travel platform designed to enhance your travel experience in Asia. Create personalized itineraries, book accommodations and transportation with ease, and discover local expertise with our network of private tour guides, all conveniently accessible within the GoAsia app.

Problem statement

Travelers frequently encounter difficulties in planning independent Asia trips, including:

  • Difficulty finding comprehensive and reliable travel information.

  • Managing multiple travel apps for transportation, accommodation, and navigation.

  • Risk of scams when traveling independently.

  • Desire for personalized experiences beyond large group tours.

A platform that integrates information, social connections, and trust is crucial to address these challenges and enhance the independent travel experience.

Goal

Build an all-in-one platform offers comprehensive travel guidance, allowing users to book flights, hotels, and attractions and organize their trip conveniently in one place. We focus exclusively on Asia to ensure the highest quality services and include user reviews and ratings to help you make informed travel choices. Experience Asia seamlessly with GoAsia.

User Research

For this project, I employed a qualitative research approach to gain a deeper understanding of travelers' needs and preferences. By exploring their psychological and emotional motivations, I aimed to uncover insights into their travel experiences, behaviors, and underlying desires.

Questions:

1. What challenges that you usually face when planning a trip?

2. What is the main challenge when you are trying to connect with other travelers or locals while traveling?

3. How do you want to plan your trip? By travel agency or you want to plan the trip on your own? Why?

4. How is it important to you when navigating near by restaurants, cafes and other attractions by GPS when traveling?

5. How reviews and ratings about places important to you?

6. Could you describe the features on the app that you think will be the most beneficial for you while traveling?

7. How do you gather information about your next destination when planning a trip?

8. How do you prefer to connect with your accommodations and booking agency?

Insight:

1. Information Overload and Fragmentation

Travelers often need to consult multiple websites, apps, and travel guides, making the planning process fragmented and inefficient. These lead to countless options for destinations, accommodations, transportation, activities, and more. This information overload can be overwhelming and lead to decision paralysis.

2. Difficulty Finding Personalized Experiences

Many popular destinations are overrun with tourists, leading to crowded attractions, impersonal experiences, and a lack of authenticity. Furthermore, they can be struggle to connect with locals and gain authentic insights into the destination and its culture.

3. Booking and Logistics Challenges

Travelers have to face with complex booking process which can be time-consuming and frustrating. Language Barriers and Cultural Differences are also problems that they usually encounter when planning their trip.

4. Safety and Security Concerns

Travelers may encounter scams related to accommodation bookings, transportation, tours, and other travel services. Moreover, navigating unfamiliar destinations and ensuring personal safety can be a concern for some travelers, especially solo travelers or those traveling to unfamiliar regions.

Takeaways

This project, designed for my Google UX Design course, allowed me to concentrate on core user flows (Booking Tour Guide and Booking Hotel) within a larger travel planning application. This focused approach facilitated a deeper understanding of these specific functionalities. I chose the prompt, "Build a product which can help traveler locate, navigate attractions and plan trip. I gained valuable experience in identifying and addressing the common pain points faced by travelers. The project reinforced the importance of maintaining a user-centered mindset throughout the design process, from initial concept to final implementation.
